Lol the majority of comments on this story... Jealous!!!

    This dude showed fantastic initiative!

And i'd say his markup is more near 50% than 10-15%.

A friend of mine actually does iPhone 4 repairs (on the blacks)- as Apple doesnt cover dropping and shattering your phone- and i believe the units, which are expensive as one cannot just replace the glass but also the LCD + digitizer on ip4, cost him around $100 and he fits them within up to half an hour for 200$.

Depending on how you react to the price you may get a 'discount' of 20%.

9/10 dont care just want their baby back lol:apple::D

I'm going to go out on a limb and postulate that the next release won't be iOS5, nor will the next phone be iPhone 5. Reason being, as someone already stated in the forums a few days ago, this release is more likely to be iterative--evolutionary, not revolutionary. The new design of iPhone 4 will stand, and the only changes outwardly might be the screen. Everything else is inside.

I think '5' is a catchy number, and Apple will reserve it for the 2012 iPhone. We'll see a whole new, magical iOS5 and with it, iPhone 5! Dun, dun, duuuuun!!! (or should I say, BOOM!)

I think you'll see iOS4.5 with all these cool little tweaks to the UI (and I REALLY hope improvements to notifications), and the new iPhone 4NS (New Screen or some such) in September.

...and the white iPhone at the same time. Perhaps in other cool colours... or maybe just the antenna band in those funky iPod nano colours. :)

I do find it funny that Microsoft continues to make the comparison via specs alone, when design is a huge factor too, especially when it comes to notebooks.

I can't say I've used every Windows notebook out there, but I've come across several that had absolutely loathsome designs. My MBP was out of comission for a week once and I borrowed my sister's HP laptop. Specwise they were probably about the same, but the trackpad on the HP was one of the worst things I had ever used. The laptop was also thicker and heavier than my MBP, and the screen hinge was a lot stiffer, meaning that it took a bit more effort to open it up when it wanted to use it.

If you compare pure specs, Apple does come off as more expensive. But the design I'm paying for is definitely worth the difference.

There's a chain email going around here in NZ saying not to buy from BP or Mobil for the rest of the year. I'm not expecting it to do much good though...

I hate those. Or when I hear people talking about it. How do they expect that to do anything?

it is strange that they added a fourth band (VIII - 900 frequency) which is for more of europe, asia and also vodaNZ but doesn't open up anything in the US... even stranger is that i was just in NZ and my 3G[S] (which doesn't support VIII / 900 apparently) was on the vodaNZ 3G network the whole time. anyone with knowledge of this whole UMTS / HSDPA band and frequency thing, please tell me how this worked then?

I guess Apple added the 3G in 900Mhz to support the 3G networks in Europe. 3G in Europe has been historically in the 2100Mhz band, but that band has poor propagation (poor in building reception) so since a few years there has been some refarming going on of regular GSM bands at 900Mhz to 3G in euroland. Most 3G phones these days in Europe are 900/2100 3G so I'm assuming Apple just wanted to be competitive in Europe in terms of reception.

I really like the ads. I think John Hodgeman actually makes them work though - being in the "PC" role has got to be much more difficult than the "Mac" role.

I'm planning to put his "The Areas of my Expertise..." book on my Christmas list. He read some excerpts from it on NPR a while back - hilarious!

So what about pap smears, cancer detection, HPV detection, STD testing and immunization, sex education, and all the other things that don't have to do with popping out units that the GOP will also be killing?

Maybe we should also tell women that in the name of personal responsibility, they need to learn how to detect cervical cancer their own damn self. Maybe we should also tell a guy with Chlamydia that he should buy a chemistry set and invent his own damn cure.

Other organizations do that stuff also. The majority of Planned Parenthood's business is abortions.

Wow. Can't everyone leave Apple alone. ;)

Currently, online movie downloads have no what near the popularity as going out and buying a real DVD has. Greedy Target and Wal-mart. Don't the movie studios see that Target and Wal-mart and other retail stores will still sell DVDs, or they will take a loss?

    My prediction:
Lion and iOS5 functionality is shown which enables 'Home on iPhone', as suggested by Cult of Mac.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/18/nfc-to-enable-home-on-iphone-remote-computing/

iMac and iPhone hardware is also previewed which demonstrates this ability. This would nicely tie together new releases of the two operating systems as well as the launch of their move to the cloud and would explain why they're bringing the two operating systems together to a single event for the first time.

Most political interest groups or whatever you may call them tend to sooner or later be a hindrance to integration that a benefit. It is in their very nature as their mission is to watch out for the interest of their constituents. Sooner or later that will lead to trying to carve out special privileges.
Also most of these interest groups do not truly represent the majority of the people they claim to represent anyways.
Doesn't matter what group that is, racial, ethnic, religious, industry, social etc.. Politics would benefit most from banning all of them from the political discourse.

Call me ignorant, but what results has folding at home produced thus far? I'm looking for hard statistics, not "you contributed to x".

not ignorant, just didn't know where to look i guess...

now onto results which can be found at the F@H page!

LINK (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers) to the published papers (results) page, and a really cool MOVIE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFcp2Xpd29I&feature=player_embedded) here. might no be much to watch, but the difference between folding a couple years ago and that movie are like the difference between a paper plane and the space shuttle. we have come a long way in a short period of time, and it only gets better with new clients and more people participating.

to put it a different way, if you would have been folding in you would have been part of the record...

September 2007: Guinness World Record. From their award: On 16 September Folding@home, a distributed computing network operating from Stanford University (USA) achieved a computing power of 1 petaflop -- or 1 quadrillion floating point operations per second. The project uses the power of peoples' home computers, as well as their PlayStation3s, to simulate the processes inside living cells that can lead to diseases, such as Alzheimer's Disease.

it's real, it matters, the more people that help, the better the results.

Pretty cool that some kid can take initiative and do what Apple apparently cannot.

I am sure there is going to be a bunch going back and forth. It is very hard to prosecute on this if it was a parts order the primary didn't accept. He may claim that he is just selling surplus or discarded parts as salvage. Love to know who is footing the PIs bill to harass this kid.

Nope! That's the swiffer XL-4SxyYQERupupdowndownleftrightleftrightabenterDAF!$r44q limited edition ceiling duster! I'd know because I own four of them and am the official spokesman for its fan club. ;)

Lol @ this. I have to say though, that picture is slightly retarded. Reminds me of the recent windows phone 7 commercial: "Lets you get in, and out, and back to life" Translation: "This phone isn't interesting enough to keep your attention so, you get in, and you'll want to get out, so you can get back to life." Microsoft just doesn't get the message they send with the subtle details I guess.

Wow... short sighted on the networks part. I'm surprised.... no difference than just having another TV in your house, just on your Tablet. It would be interesting to know more about their motivation behind this... maybe they want to go direct? In other words, maybe Discovery and the other channels want to sell direct subscriptions and not go through channel partners like Time Warner?

If that is the case... I smell disaster for the networks. Who wants to buy individual channels for their computers, iPads or other devices? Not me? It would have to be dirt cheap.

Hummm.... thinking about it... maybe it's not so dumb? If each channel was $.99 and I could pick Ala-carte who I wanted, I know my Cable bill would go from $40 per-month to less than $10. Maybe they are onto something thinking about it?

In the UK where customers of the like of O2 (me) have more chance of getting a w##k off the Pope than a decent data signal without resorting to standing up a ladder and waving their phone in the air, this is a definate no win app.

Depends. If you're a little choir boy then you might arouse the Pope's interest.

QUOTE=flosseR: Thatisme, please read this, and read it CAREFULLY...

These are the complete comments to all your relevant posts:

"To the previous post about focal lengths, the difference in perceived focal length comes into account when you factor in the 1.6 cropped sensor. Since the sensor is physically smaller than a Full Frame or 1.3 crop sensor, it is essentially taking the image from the center portion of the lens.

So, you WILL get different focal lengths from 2 identically marked lenses where one is an EF-S lens and the other is an EF lens."

--INCORRECT on the same body you will get the EXACT same image. Show me images with EXIF data in tact, and no cropping done in post

"Nikon also created a FULL FRame camera a while back that also had the ability to create a "cropped" image to increase it's rate of capture to achieve results in FPS that were similar to canon's 1D series bodies. Effectively if it captured less pixels per image, it could do so faster."

-- ALL Nikon Cameras can use ALL Nikon made lenses. And no, that wasn't the main reason to do that. Never made any mention of Nikon mounts not working on all bodies. And please do enlighten everyone here what the purpose of "high-speed crop" is on that Nikon body...

"YOU WILL GET DIFFERENT IMAGES IF YOU USE A 200mm EF Lens on a 7D (APS-C) and a 200mm EF-S lens on that same camera due to the FOVCF. on the EF lens, the 200mm assumes you are using the ENTIRE image circle of the lens, which you are not. You ARE using the ENTIRE image circle on the EF-S lens, which is a True 200mm for that camera. You have to use the ENTIRE image circle to get a true measure of the focal length. when you use only a portion of that image circle, you have to apply the FOVCF to get the EFFECTIVE focal length."

-- This is pulled out of you mind because it does not make sense at ALL and is so incorrect it's not even funny.. the lens is NOT adjusted to the focal length.. the length is the same.. the EFFECTIVE focal length (or Field of VIEW) comes from the sensor.. NOT the lens!!! Yep. I made that point a number of times already. The Actual Focal length (the mm) doesn't change.

    "ok. this is getting comical.

    From your post, blasting me....

A canon 55-200 EF-s and a 70-200L lens at 200mm on a canon 7D will produce the exact same image...the same as if you would mount both lenses on a full frame body and crop the image by 1.6"

-- NO YOU WONT!!! what are you? a troll that needs feeding??

I compared BOTH lenses mounted on a 7d to BOTH lenses mounted on a 5d if you crop the BOTH images from a 5d you have the same as BOTH from a 7d.. DONT #$@$$ CROP!!!!!!!!!!
If you take BOTH shots from a 7d .. they are the SAME.. and they are the same if you shoot them both on a 5d..

    GET
    IT
    IN
    YOUR
    BRAIN!

THE SENSOR MATTERS!!! NOT THE LENS.. EXACTLY. NEVER SAID IT DIFFERENTLY. THE 1.6 IS FROM THE CAMERA SENSOR, NOT THE LENS. NEVER DID I STATE THAT DIFFERENTLY

    geezz. END QUOTE

What about regulations to protect the consumer from those that find loop holes to make big bucks....

Parents need to do their part, but government needs to try to protect from the greed that that brought us to the mess we are in today....

Are we really comparing looking into in-app purchases with the crimes committed by Wall Street? Wow.

This is a 100% parental issue. As for Apple, the least they could do (and it might be there) is to post a video teaching parents to use parental controls.
