    But insight on when somethings going to happen isnt the singular, or even the primary, purpose of these discussions. Theyre an opportunity to talk about what MAY BE released and what sort of functionality/design it will have, how it will work, what the target market (beside us) will be, etc.

    Exactly...they're basically a big group of people getting together and drooling and hoping at least some bit comes true.

    And oh my goodness is an iPhone super drool-worthy! I'm getting concerned about how soon I'll be able to get one seeing as everyone and his dog wants one.

    And I'm still waiting on that g5 powerbook...it's my Godot. :rolleyes: (Or at least an MBP w/a 12" or smaller screen)

    Ah, ok... money seems to be the reason why you would think the Mini... but what if the OP could get a dual core 2.3 for like 250.00 on ebay w/the following:

    Dual core 2.3 PowerPC G5
    16GB of DDR2 PC2-4200 Memory
    2x320GB SATA Hard drives
    18x Superdrive
    Fully loaded with Mac OS X 10.5.8
    Original software/restore discs + manual + box.
    Nvidia Geforce 6800

    for like 250.00 - would that be a good deal for the OP? I think the Quads are also nice, but you have the risk of it possibly leaking later on.. though when I acquired my G5 Quad two years ago from a recycling company in NY for 1000.00 dollars(I was on a G4 MDD at this point), Apple confirmed that the G5 Quad I got had the "Better" quality grade LCS, and not the DELPHI which plaugued the Early 2005 dual 2.7 and dual 2.5 OF 2004.

    I think the dual core 2.3 is a good deal at 250.00 - do you agree?

    Wait, is such a system actually available for that price? I mean, the NVIDIA Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL I've got in my G5 goes for about that much by itself (for reasons I can't really fathom). If so, I might need to upgrade.

    OP - As a computer tech who witnessed much wailing and gnashing of teeth as a result of PowerMac G5s, I can't really recommend them fully. However, I will state that I have been using a first-gen dual 2.0GHz G5 (the least reliable model) without incident as my primary home desktop for the better part of four years, it having replaced my faithful Gig-E G4. I'm pretty sure it's had some warranty work done, but since I've been using it, it's been fine. Just remember that anecdote is not the singular of data.

    While many will disagree with my point of view, I think this is just more evidence that Apple and Google with be the 2 major players duking it out. The one that should really worry here is not Apple but RIM. On the bright side, this will just force both iOS and Android to get better and better as they compete with each other. Both platforms have come a long way I can't way for the next smackdown!

    1)I think with Apple reportedly not releasing the iPhone 5 till 2012, that is a huge open door for Android and RIM to come in and grab more share/customers.

    2)I don't think the iOS has come a long way...I have the 3GS model which is 3+ years old...the only difference between the 3GS and the 4 is better camera/video and Facetime. iOS has barely changed. I have NUMEROUS iOS enhancements that Apple could put into the iPhone yet they still do not exist. iPhone 3/4 is very nice, but I have to tell you that as I see more and more Androids out there, the Androids look extremely competitive if not better than iPhone.

    3)Don't underestimate RIM/Blackberry. They OWN the business space. Too bad Apple has never figured out how to play/sell well to businesses otherwise iPhone would likely have killed Blackberry by now. My wife got the new Torch...although it's no iPhone, it's quite a nice device and is PAID FOR by her company like 99% of "company" phones so whatever shortcomings about Blackberry, she's not paying for it like a general consumer. My bet is that RIM will try extremely hard to make their Blackberries better with touchscreen and web surfing. But the primary reason for a BB in business is not web surfing or playing angry bird games or watching Youtube...it's email/calendar, notifications, and some business apps.

    i seriously effing hope it's more than improvements to file sync'ing, spotlight, and virtual desktops. that's pathetic. we need a revolutionary OS revision.
    "Revolutionary" was the switch from OS 9 to OS X. It's unrealistic to expect that for 10.5.

    But I agree, I'm hoping for more in terms of UI enhancement and consistencey, along with increased functionality in the OS and it's native apps.

    For the last time.... it's not coming out this year.

    iPad = spring
    iPhone = summer
    iPod = fall

    Once a year cycle. Stupid source.

    I swear some of these rumors are nothing but a mole hunting expedition by Steve and company to handle security leaks inside Apple. Considering some of the directors and VPs over at Apple have Intelligence Community connections, this does not surprise me one bit. Curious what those in the current IC are doing instead of these reindeer games.

    Oh good! Finally! I used to enjoy drinking Budvar, Plzen, etc. and I wasn't thrilled when I moved to the US that Anheuser-Busch would be able to market the lemonade under the same brand. Cheers!

    Sadly, I remember reading an article a while back that said the number one import beer in the U.K. was...Budweiser. Not the Czech version, but the Anheuser-Busch version. There also stats showing how much their sales were going up, while sales of Guinness were down all around the U.K. It was very depressing. All those lovely beers to import from their own back yard, and Budweiser is the number one import? I haven't seen any numbers on the rest of the EU, though.

    Apple makes as much profit on an iPhone as competitors make on one 4-5 Android smartphones. That's what really matters.

    Oww that's so cute, you actually believe that all those workers in china that work for Apple are there by choice and can just quit and get another job somewhere else. Trust me you would not work in thier conditions.

    And that somehow excuses their actions?

    I continue to be amazed by the number of students at my community college that have iPhones. These are students who for the most part are struggling to make ends meet, yet were willing to spend their limited cash that way. There are at least two or three students with iPhones in each of my classes; two years ago, I didn't see any -- and mine was a curiosity to them.

    iPhones don't cost any more than other smart phones, so I don't see why you find this surprising. If you need a phone, might as well get the best.

    I concurr. Almost every concert I go to now, I see a MacBook on stage. I see mac notebooks everywhere. One thing I hate is when i see people dissuading potential buyers away from macintoshes, simply because Windows is the more common operating system, when most of the time, these are new computer buyers and wouldn't be able to use Wwindows in the first place.

    Well it is an issue of Risk Manangement. Whie true most people will be better off with a Mac. If they don't know anything better, the PC seems like the safest choice, Just because the numbers show more PC are out there and if you go to CompUSA you get 6-7 iles of Windows Programs and a little corner with Mac Products (often at a higher price too :mad: ). If they didn't like their Mac they are stuck with it. At least with the PC if it sucks you can use the programs you have on the Newer System (theroretically). It is hard to explain to them that OS X and iLife is equilvalnt to about $1000 of 3rd party software that you will need to get to match the quality, (not the crap that most PC come standard with) espectailly because all the feature seems to be there. iPhoto vs. Mr. Pic Foto softare, Mail vs. Outlook Express. But for someone new that is tough to explain. When they are computer savy enough they already have already invested into PC and PC Software so getting them to swich is hard too.

    At least now with bootcamp you can go. Get a Mac if you really hate it after a few weeks we can put windows on it, and it will run that fine too.

    I would gladly subscribe to iPad magazines. As it is, I subscribe to the print versions of the New Yorker, Wired, New York Magazine, Esquire and GQ. If I could get all of these magazines for a reasonable price on the iPad, I would gladly make the switch, if only to get rid of the pile of magazines I'm left with every month (after reading them). However, for the $5/issue they're charging now, no way. Although, I should mention that New York Magazine gives free access to its print subscribers, which is fantastic.

    I am actually a relatively new entrant to the editing/movie making gig. I started making corporate videos using iMovie, which I had been using since V1.

    The irony here is that I switched (dragged kicking and screaming) to FCP a few years ago because, amongst other things, I couldn't get my head around the "new" iMovie.

    Now I am considering downloading iMovie '11 just to familiarise myself with the next FCP :rolleyes:

    Good Expo I hope though.

    How did you secure an appointment to get set up? Which color did you get? I preordered 2 white iPhones 1st at the local Best Buy, but they weren't able to set an appointment for receiving and setting up the iPhone but said they'll call me "soon" to set one up.

    When I paid the $50 deposit, the sales rep told us that they were making appointments (right there on the spot, no call backs or anything), 2 customers at a time, every fifteen minutes on the 24th, starting at 9am. I guess its different for each individual BB store.

    I ordered a black iPhone 4 16gb. There was no mention of a problem or a delay with the white ones. If there is a problem with the white ones, then the sales rep (or anyone else in the store) was not aware of it.
